Inspiration
“Firefly Lullaby” was inspired by a beautiful, sparkly night in the Texas Hill Country. There were stars in the dark sky, and fireflies were twinkling all around; the rhythm and songs of the nocturnal creatures felt like a soothing lullaby to the author. Weiss later returned to Dallas and painted a canvas memorializing that impressive experience. The painting then inspired the book, and the book was the spark for the “Firefly Lullaby MP3”.
“As a city dweller, I do not often hear this richly textured song of nature’s creatures. Knowing that many urban kids are also rarely exposed to these sounds, I hope that children can experience a little bit of the wonder and beauty of nature through this book and recording.” Karen Weiss, artist/author.
